The Ekadashi vrat is regarded as the supreme among all vratas (religious observances). Those who undertake the vrata become the dearest to Lord Hari. Even the grand sacrifices like Ashwamedha, Rajasuya, and Vajapeya pale in comparison to even a fraction of the merit gained by observing the Ekadashi vrata (Ekadashi Mahatmya).

Reading or listening to devotional scriptures such as the Shrimad Bhagavatam, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, Chaitanya Charitamrita, or Chaitanya Bhagavata on this day is believed to yield results equivalent to donating the entire world.

Observing Ekadashi vrata not only ensures harmony and righteousness in one’s own life but also serves as a means to deliver one’s deceased parents or ancestors from the torment of hell, should they have been subjected to such due to their karmic actions. By observing the Ekadashi vrata, a dutiful child can liberate their forebears from such suffering.

Consuming grains or food on Ekadashi results in one’s own fall to hell and also drags one’s ancestors into hell. Advising others not to observe Ekadashi vrata also leads to a similar consequence. Hence, it is essential to observe the Ekadashi vrata with sincerity.
