Ram Navami Vrat: Significance, Rituals and Best Puja Products
Ram Navami, a sacred Hindu festival, marks the birth of Lord Rama,
the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Observed on the ninth day of Chaitra Shukla Paksha, this day holds immense significance for devotees who observe the Ram Navami Vrat (fasting) for spiritual blessings, good fortune, and family well-being.
Importance of Ram Navami and Fasting Benefits
Observing Ram Navami fasting is believed to bring spiritual growth, good health, and prosperity. According to Hindu scriptures, fasting on this day helps devotees cleanse their mind and body, leading to positive energy and divine blessings. Many devotees also perform puja (worship) at home or visit temples to seek blessings from Lord Rama.
Ram Navami Vrat Katha (Sacred Story of Ram Navami Brat)
King Dasharatha was nearing the end of his youth, yet he remained childless. Worried about the future of his dynasty, he spent his days in deep concern.
Finally, his royal priest, Sage Vashishta, advised him to chant the sacred mantras of Lord Shiva and Goddess Durga along with his queen. Following this advice, King Dasharatha dedicated himself with great devotion to the chanting of these mantras.
Pleased by the king’s devotion and unwavering faith, Lord Shiva himself appeared before him and said,
“I am greatly pleased by your dedication and sincerity. Your wish shall certainly be fulfilled. Make arrangements for the Putreshti Yajna (a sacred fire ritual for obtaining offspring) without delay.”
Following Lord Shiva’s divine instructions, King Dasharatha consulted his royal priests and arranged for the Putreshti Yajna. With great effort, he invited Sage Rishyashringa, who performed the ritual successfully. Upon the completion of the yajna, the sacrificial offering (charu) was distributed among the king’s three queens – Kaushalya and the others.
Shortly after consuming the charu, Queen Kaushalya and the other two queens conceived. After ten months and ten days, on the ninth day of Chaitra Shukla Paksha, under the auspicious Punarvasu Nakshatra, in a divine moment, the Supreme Lord was born as Lord Rama from the womb of Queen Kaushalya.
That sacred and auspicious day was celebrated throughout the kingdom with great joy and festivity.
Since this day marked the divine birth of Lord Rama, the ninth day of Chaitra Shukla Paksha came to be known as Ram Navami.
